As expected, good value
Works as expected and I feel it’s a good value for the price. I preferred a corded tool because I anticipate a longer life span vs. one with a rechargeable battery. Regarding some of the complaints in other reviews, a more detailed manual would probably increase people’s satisfaction.1) The black silicone “anti-slip sleeve” does fit but it isn’t meant to cover the sanding band at all– it needs to be pulled farther down onto the grinder until the lock button is inside the tube and the black cut outs align with the purple vents. It isn’t like other grinders that come with a guard to “protect” the paws by limiting how much of the sandpaper is exposed. It’s just for grip.2) I didn’t have experience with other rotary tools so I wasn’t aware when we place the sandpaper over the black rubber, we need to use a tiny screwdriver to tighten the screw down which will compress the rubber, until it holds the sandpaper securely. Including this in the manual would be very helpful.3) My unit also makes a high pitched electrical sound that I can hear but is barely audible to my partner. It sometimes goes away after turning the speed up/down/off or possibly reorienting the tool, so I am unsure if there’s a poor connection somewhere that causes it, but it seems to not impact the function. We are now conditioning my dog to hearing the tool and it doesn’t seem to be aversive to her, so I’m expecting it to work out after more training.

Powerful and ready to go when you are
This is the third grinder I’ve owned, the other two were battery powered and the battery wore out and was almost as expensive to replace as the grinder itself. I was happy to see this product for this price on Amazon, because a corded grinder is going to give you more consistent speeds (the battery powered one would slow down as the battery died). I guess maybe it was because the battery was old but every single time I went to use the thing the battery was totally dead. That meant I had to wait until the next day to do my dogs’ nails. Now that I have two dogs that is unacceptable. The quality of this grinder is nice. It’s not too loud. It has two speeds. The low speed seems to be high enough to get the job done. A little assembly is required, but it’s not difficult. The most important thing is probably tightening the screw that holds the band to the drum. A lot of people have complained about it slipping, but I can tell you the same thing happened on my Dremel until I learned to make sure the band was on tight. There were some concerns from other reviewers about power. I have a 60# dog and on low speed it works fine on her nails. You don’t want this to be too powerful because if you have a dog with long hair and you get hair wrapped around this, you want it to stop. I think it’s good enough to do the job. You’re just filing nails here.My only concern right now is the cord on this is very thin and seems flimsy. And, instead of the cord detaching from the end that goes into the grinder so it would be replaceable, it detaches from the brick that plugs into the wall. So, you could replace the brick, but not the cord. If it breaks, I’ll come back and update my review. I hold onto things forever, so the durability and serviceability are important to me.IF YOU’RE NEW TO GRINDING NAILS:I detest clipping my dogs’ nails. A few years ago I discovered grinding as the way to go and I will never clip again. When I got a puppy and she wasn’t used to the grinder I tried buying clippers on her since she is so much smaller than my other dog (15# versus about 60#). With her nails being smaller and softer I thought I could clip them. The first time I used them went fine. The second time I hit the quick and I don’t know who felt worse, her or me.It doesn’t take long to condition your dog to accept the grinder. I found a video on the internet that walks you through it step-by-step. Start with the grinder off, just show it to her and give her a treat. Then hold the grinder, still off, and put it up to her foot as you hold it and give her a treat. Slowly work your way up to actually grinding and giving her treats often.

I used these for a previous nail grinder that has since broken. I am able to use the replacement sander drums, but the staff/sticks are not appropriate for the new device unfortunately. These are great though.

Andis came in clutch once again!
I read the reviews on amazon, chewy, and walmart as I saw that a 3.5 star was not what i had personal experience with from Andis brand products, but I decided to take a chance and I an so glad I did. I had previously bought a “as seen on TV” nail dremel for my dog years ago that was very cheap, and would stop with too much pressure as some of the reviews say here. for awhile i was borrowing friends or a boyfriends dremel or just taking her somewhere to get them done, but now i needed my own for my husky/GSD/wolf mix as I do all of the rest of her grooming upkeep myself. I have only had amazing experience with Andis brand clippers, growing up with clipping and showing horses, my first pair of Andis clippers lasted 10 years doing multiple full body clips a year. I now have the Andis Pulse Ion and Ultra Edge corded clippers (also in purple). With this tool, I was very happy with the light weight in comparison to your traditional dremel tools, also with it being corded and no battery pack needed, it makes it alot lighter than what I am used to. I had not done my pups nails in about 2 months so alot of nail needed to be sanded down, and not once did the motor sound like it was struggling or that it stopped because of pressure. I know there were also some concerns about the grinding band staying on the barrel, but I felt that the tool included was able to loosen and then tighten efficiently on the barrel so that I had no issue with that. I am not a professional groomer, so I would not speculate about multiple dogs a day, but in my first impression with this tool, and my past experience with Andis I would not be surprised if it was able to handle it just fine. One of my favorite things about this tool is that it has the 2 set speeds, as i found sometimes with dremel tools that had highly adjustable speeds, I would accidentally turn it too high and then have a freak out moment trying to turn it back down all trying to keep my pooch calm and in place. when it comes down to it, especially if you are just doing your personal dogs, you will be unable to beat the quality for the price. i would give it more stars if I could.

Excelente compra.

First time I have been able to do my dogs nails without him going completely ballistic.Note to those that see the bad reviews about the sanding drums falling off: this is 100% user error. Just like with a Dremel tool, you need to tighten that screw on the top of the bit to grip the sanding drum properly, this is normal operation, as you tighten it is squeezes out the rubber so that it holds firm against the sides of the sanding drum. If the sanding drum comes off, you didn’t tighten it properly. It is much quieter than my Dremel tool, especially at the low speed setting, making it a lot easier to deal with, though I would recommend only using it to do maintenance trimming as it would take a long time to trim long nails using this method. My dog doesn’t seem to mind it and it doesn’t seem to concern him the same way other cutting tools do.

I ordered this from the UK site instead of the US one because I’m living in Kuwait where the electrical sockets are like those in England. I was bummed that it has a US plug designed for 110 instead of 220, so now I have to buy a transformer before I can use it.
