Ranked as one of the best diet plans by US News & World Report: A plan to lose weight that puts the focus on feeling sated and satisfied with fewer calories; author Barbara Rolls has earned the author the Obesity Society Presidential Medal of Distinction for her work in research and outreach.
?Dieters everywhere have the same complaint: they’re hungry all the time. Now this revolutionary book, based on sound scientific principles, can help you lose weight safely, effectively, and permanently without those gnawing pangs of hunger.
The Volumetrics Weight-Control Plan introduces the concept of “energy density” — concentration of calories in each portion of food. Here you’ll learn how to avoid high energy — dense foods, and how such different nutritional factors as fat, fiber, protein, and water affect energy density and satiety. You’ll discover which foods, eaten under which circumstances, allow you to consume fewer calories and still be satisfied. And you’ll get to know the hidden calorie traps, seemingly innocuous foods that can sneak unwanted calories into your body. Finally, the authors offer 60 sensible, tasty and easy recipes, plus an integrated program of exercise and behavior management that can be sustained over a lifetime.

Outstanding weight loss book!
When this book came out there was very little hype about it. The title is not sexy, there are no exciting visuals, weight loss is not fast. Thus many people ignored it and hopped on the “diet of the week” bandwagon.Yet “The Volumetrics Weight-Control Plan” by Rolls and Barnett is one of the best, easiest to follow “diet” plans on the market. And it is backed up by research. The plan is simple. On a daily average most people eat about the same weight of food. That weight could have a caloric value of 1500 calories or 2500 calories depending on what you select to eat. Rolls and Barnett teach you to eat lower calorie but high satiety foods by increasing the water rich foods in your diet. Foods like fruits and vegetables. These will fill you up and thus you will eat less. For example you could eat Italian Pasta Salad with a lot of veggies and for 200 calories eat TWICE as much as Italina Pasta Salad thats heavy on the rotini. You could eat one 60 calorie cookie in a snap or eat one juicy water filled apple for the same amount of calories over a longer period of time. You get more food for the same calories. Because you are eating more food you will over the course of the day eat less and thus your calories will be lower and you will over time lose weight.Rolls and Barnett give plenty of recipes, substitutions, and suggestions to help you easily accomplish your goals. Try it today. Have a cup of soup or an apple prior to eating lunch. Thise foods are filling and you will eat less of the energy dense foods like chips and candy. An easy to understand, excellent plan for good health and weight loss!

The secret – eat so you feel full – who knew?
The Volumetrics Weight-Control Plan is the best thing to come into my life since sliced bread – no pun intended. Barbara Rolls is a researcher and scientific investigator who isn’t trying to sell you overnight success or supplements or super-duper curves or a body to die for. In fact, as far as I’ve been able to figure she ONLY selling her 2 books, and boy are they worth every penny you’ll spend to buy them. The science isn’t new, just the presentation. The book is filled with color pictures that actually SHOW the difference between a quarter cup of raisins versus a cup of grapes – a veggie pizza wedge versus a cheese slice. The premise is simple and the science is sound. Your body doesn’t know from fat, carbs, etc. It know from FULL or NOT. Make it think it’s full, it’ll quit nagging you to eat. It’s so simple I can’t imagine why we haven’t all come to this plan. Why am I using this book? I’m fat. I’ve been fat for about 16 years. I’m glucose intolerant, have high blood pressure, and before I found this book I was on the way to full blown diabetes, the very real possibility of a stroke, blown knees, and a life of waiting to die. My doctors have been telling me a simple truth for years. ALL – that means every single one – of your physical ills are directly attributable to being overweight. Sound familiar? For years they’ve been saying – start with 1800 calories Mary. Lose 20 pounds. Then we’ll reevaluate. Just begin, Mary. So – I began – dozens of times. And failed. Dozens of times. I beat myself up mercilessly for my failures. Then, trolling Amazon as I am wont to do, I bumped into Volumetrics. OK, I thought. Can’t hurt. Nope. Didn’t hurt a bit. This is far and away the best eating plan I’ve ever met, and I’ve met a few. As soon as I started charting 1800 calories a day using the principles in the book – I started losing – slowly and steadily. And I felt full – ate stuff I loved – learned to plan for the day – even the week – bought a nice big roomy food carrier to take to the office. It’s not in the carrier – it doesn’t go in my mouth. For all of you out there who have been praying for the one that clicks – try this. It’s a cheap price to pay for what may be the most important book you’ll ever buy. It works for me and my hand to God, it’ll work for you. Try it. You’ll love it.

Good book
It is a good book and teaches lots of knowledge about food.Sometimes a bit tiring to read, that is why only 4 stars.I already lost around 12 pounds and it cut out my gout episode within 2 days of eating the volumetric style. It promotes eat lots of veggies and fruit, little full grain products and even less fatty meats and milk products.Nothing is forbidden, but rather eating lots of chocolate, eat a less fat one and only one serving instead of the whole thing.I defiantly would recommend this book and her other one.I found this book in browsing some actresses website (she is also on TV), she mentioned that her diet is based on the volumetric system from Ph. Docoter Rolls.Well, I wish you best of luck for your diet!

Some people may not like the food plan as it includes many water-intensive foods …
The concept of eating a lot of food for less calories is something everyone understands. The volumetric book concentrates a lot on “food density” and you are pointed towards “lower-density” foods, ie a lot of fruits and vegetables. Some people may not like the food plan as it includes many water-intensive foods that may still leave some people still hungry. The book tries to steer you toward good food choices. The higher the water content…..the lower the E.D. or energy density. Fill up and eat lower E.D. foods instead of high E.D. foods. For example, fish has a lower E.D. than beef. 1 cup pf grapes has a lower E.D. than 1 cup of raisins. You get the point. A lot of fruits, vegetables and lean protein.

Can not due a review as this book was a gift for a very needy person. As far as I know this book has aided the person in need.

This is the most sensible book I have read about “dieting”. There’s no hype involved, no promisses that you are going to become a Venus/Adonis (whichever is the case) within a totally unrealistic period of time, no stupid eating plans that cut out essential foods like carbs, just straight honest talk and easy to follow advice. For me the only downfall is that this book is aimed at the american market and it mentions a lot of foodstuffs that I have never heard of. As I was reading through the book I could see myself changing the way I eat with visible results and that’s even without changing what I normally cook for the family, it’s a case of balancing the portions and go for 60% vegetables and fruit. Highly recommended, and don’t expect any sudden weight changes, this plan is geared towards slow, healthy weight loss – as it should be.

Lovely book. Very plain talking and it does not get bogged down with jargon.
